With farms and agri-businesses producing increasing volumes of digital data, effective governance is essential to ensure that data holders, users and others have clear rights and responsibilities, that access is fair, and that trust is maintained.
After a warm welcome and introduction by Tuna Coppens (ILVO), the workshop kicked off with an introduction to the ScaleAgData project by project coordinator Koen Van Rossum (VITO), laying out the project's main goals around innovation labs and digital transformation in agri-food.
Then, basic concepts of data space and the European framework, as well as key finding from the AgriDataSpace project were presented by Ella Deroo (ILVO).
Finally, perspectives from the CEADS (Common European Agricultural Data Space) project were outlined by Margot Imbo (ILVO). Both project presentations shared insight in the required organizational and legal frameworks for making agricultural data spaces a reality.
Participants engaged in live polls, reflecting on challenges such as trust, responsibilities, and fair access, while exchanging ideas on how to design governance that works for farmers, businesses and society at large.
The workshop's outcomes will feed into ScaleAgData's ongoing work to shape practical, transparent and sustainable governance approaches for agricultural data spaces, helping unlock the potential of digitalisation for a more competitive and sustainable European agriculture.
